 Two
teams from Retford & District Lifesavers are competing in the World
Lifesaving Competition held in Berlin Germany this year.The teams will compete in the Simulated Emergency Rescue Competition (SERC) where they must demonstrate their high level of knowledge and skill to asses, plan and co-ordinate a multiple casualty (numbering approximately 10) water based incident within a time limit of 90 seconds, using appropriate rescue aids to perform contact or non-contact rescues and demonstrate effective life support (CPR) and aftercare.
Pete's Word... }Dear All, Thank you for the interest. We have just arrived back from Berlin last night (Monday).There were 59 teams taking part in the simulated emergency response competition (SERC). There were four heats with one of our teams finishing 9th out of 15 and the other team team finishing 12th out of 15. Overall we finished 29th and 39th out of the 59 teams from all over the world. There were only five other British teams that took part they were from Perinporth, the hosts of the next world Championships in 2010, Loughborough Students, London University , Southampton university and Crawley town. Crawley are the current European champions and they finished 2nd at this competition.We were by far the youngest teams to take part and have done a great job in our first international event. The club will start preparing the next teams to take part in world championships in 2010 and will be looking for local sponsors to help finance the team and their equipment. Anyone wishing to see more of what the club does is welcome to come and join us at the Retford Leisure centre where we meet between 9am and 10.30am on a Saturday morning.The clubs next big event will be at the Retford Leisure centre on the 20th September when we play host to the regional heats of the British National Championships. On that day Retford Club members will compete against clubs from Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire. Winners will form the East midlands team at the National Championships which will be held at Ponds Forge on the 22nd November 2008. Thank you for your help and support.Pete Moyes.~
