Lifesaving 1, 2 & 3

These awards introduce the basic skills for lifesaving and is good preparation for those considering Bronze Medallion. These awards also cover the GCSE Swimming requirements for PE as well as the Bronze level for the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

Prerequisites: None

This award includes the following skills. Life Support, casualty recognition, rescue sequence, water safety code, rescue of the injured swimmer, simulation of the injured swimmer, head up front crawl, side stroke, lifesaving back stroke, stand off position and reverse, non contact tows and extended tow, rescue of unconscious casualty - turning assessing and supporting, rescue breathing in the water, horizontal lift and assisted lift, organising a team of helpers, head first and feet first surface dives, rope throw, accompanied rescue, exits - climbing out, using steps, stirrup.
